Artist's Description
An oldie, but goodie!
The famous fishing boat, Nomad, was owned by the late Joe Redington Sr., Father of the Iditarod. It is dry docked on the Knik mudflats close to the Redington's old homestead off Knik Goose Bay road, in historic Knik, Alaska.
This painting is full of contrasts that is nature's delicate balance. Land and water, flight and stillness, warm sun on the cold Knik flats, all these elements complete the peaceful yet colorful scene,
On a deeper level this painting is a tribute to my friend Bill Devine. I worked with Bill for several years at a wholesale souvenir distributer. We designed and illustrated many promotional items depicting Alaska's grandure. I was supposed to teach him how to use the computer, but instead he taught me more about art and the beauty of Alaska than anyone else to that point. He taught me how to be free and how to be loyal. He was a wonderful artist and a better man.
Bill was very close to Redingtons and often spoke of...

A wonderful color gamut and lovely atmosphere, Talya... as though a storm has ended and the clouds are lifting. I especially love the reds against the greens and myriad colors in the sky and distant low lying mist...

WOw...I love this representation of the Nomad. I'm new to Alaska and stumbled upon her on my way out to McKenzie point and was lucky to got one shot of her at Sunset. I went back out to her and when the ice froze and got a closer look and was happy with my photographic results. The story behind her and her famous owner intrigues me. The rumor on the street is that she was lost to the marsh by the 64 earthquake, but I also heard that she has been stuck there since 69'...Here one of my renditions of her http://edboudreau.artistwebsites.com/featured/bow-line-ed-boudreau.html ...I like your better!
Talya Johnson replied:
Thank you Ed! I heard that too, about the 64 earthquake. Upon further research I concluded the Joe simply retired his reliable fishing boat.
