Description
Hand painted on site for the The Yaquina River Museum of Art (YRMA) Toledo Oregon Plein air exhibit, this small original oil painting epitomizes slow summer summer afternoons far from the distractions of city life. Nute Slough is a small picturesque stream that flows south into the Yaquina River about two miles South West of Toledo in Lincoln County, Oregon. My friend and I were painted this scene right off the highway (a rather dangerous endeavor)! The uncomfortable circumstances forced us me to push quickly to find the perfect composition.
I decided to finish the painting at a safer location after a local homeowner offered us access to their adjacent property in order to paint. It was a beautiful location, and highlighted just the sort of country hospitality I often experience when painting in small towns. It’s a big part of why I enjoy painting en plein air—I get to interact with people I wouldn’t normally seek out.
